Snow in the Bannau Brycheiniog

My bobblehat has been washed, but still little Snow in the Bannau Brycheiniog. My spikes are cleaned and hanging at the front of the stable, ready for the icy mountain climbs that will soon commence on the hills. We had a blast of snow recently, inevitably an incoming storm increased the temperatues. Within a day the snow had disappeared.

I do wonder how much longer we will see snow on the hills of the Beacons during winter. Climate changes has certainly impacted our annual snowfall in Mid-Wales. Since we moved from Cardiff up to the Brecon Beacons, rain levels, storms and that dreich early April feeling seems to start from late November.
However, when the shite stuff sprinkles its magic across the landscape, its doesn’t half list the soul. Cleans the mind and immediately sends me outside. A spring in my step, bobble on and off into the hills I run.

I have a plan for winter photography and what I would like to achieve. I’ve spent many frantic winters chasing the snowfall around the hills. Have a more consolidated approach this season, with more of a focus around the Black Mountains, Crickhowell and Hay on Wye. Fingers are crossed.

Winter 2024 has been poor, this small blast for two days and a little more as a write this on the 19th December is all we have had. The outlook for Christmas appears warm and dry.

Lets us see what 2025 brings. Here’s to snow in the Bannau Brycheiniog in January 2025, full of arctic ice and heavy drifting!
