Nestled in the heart of waterfalls country in the Brecon Beacons lies Pontneddfechan Gunpowder Works. Well over a century ago, it was a thriving industrial site. Indeed it was the very first explosives factory in Wales. The buildings used during its construction were huge stone buildings. Many were built with blast walls, within the site you can also find a Blast test site, tunnels and leets.

It has a fascinating local history. Neil was commissioned to photograph the restoration of the Gunpowder Works over it’s three years project

Industrial Landscape Restoration Photography

The project has involved a variety of photography skills including portraiture, timelapse, landscape photography, drone work. The site is set deep with a valley, with overhanging rockfaces, treelines, tunnels, a fast-flowing river. Industrial landscape restoration photography is an all year round affair, photographing in the heat of summer and the snow of winter.

I worked as part of a wider project team managed directly by theĀ Brecon Beacons National Park, but including, Natural Resources Wales, Cadw, Building trusts, local groups, industrial archaeologists historians and many more.

Neil has been involved in many additonal requests now for Industrial Landscape Restoration Photography. So please contact Neil for a quote.
